At a mere 17 years old Andrew Makkinga was able to cheerfully articulate and nuanced perspectives, something that became apparent during his time in the youth Lagerhuis (VARA), a national debate competition. Since then, he has developed into a multifaceted presenter and interviewer, working for the public radio and television sector for the last 20 years. Behind the scenes, Andrew is an active member of numerous boards in the cultural sector, including Fonds Podiumkunsten.

Music plays a central role in his work, with two programs on NPO Radio Soul & Jazz as well as being the permanent host of the North Sea Jazz Festival, however, this does not comprise all of Andrew’s work. Andrew is also incredibly informed about numerous political and social issues, for which he is asked to join a number of talk shows to participate in discussions. As a former participant in Het Lagerhuis, presenter of youth debate program DeBattle and radio program De Bus, he is a strong debater.

Partly for this reason, he is high in demand as a moderator, often at the intersection of politics/society/culture: for example on behalf of municipalities, provinces and ministries, but also for banks and other (large) institutions. You can certainly also call him to announce a big concert or party (whether rock, soul or classical). There are two key factors which further set Andrew apart. Firstly, English is his first language, which often comes in handy. Secondly, his international background allows him to maintain a unique perspective outside of the typical norm, something that is often needed.
