Outreach, education, and talent development in the in-between years

In several projects, the String Quartet Biennale places a strong focus on outreach and education. Among other initiatives, we collaborate structurally with the Leerorkest to bring the string quartet to places where it would not naturally be encountered.

This collaboration stems from our ambition and mission to inspire as broad and diverse an audience as possible to experience the string quartet in all its facets and to continue exploring it further.

My first string quartet

My First String Quartet is a collaborative project of the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam and the Leerorkest. Since its launch in 2016, more than 24 Leerorkest string quartets have taken part in this inspiring programme. Through additional individual music lessons, study days with young Dutch string quartets, composition workshops with composers, and— as the crowning moment— a performance during the opening of the String Quartet Biennale, the children discover how beautiful and special it is to play string quartets together as a foursome.
