In recent years the name of composer and conductor Francisco Coll has popped up in many different places. Recently he wrote a violin concerto for Patricia Kopatchinskaja and a double concerto for Kopatchinskaja and Sol Gabetta. In 2016 Cuarteto Casals gave the world première of his Concerto Grosso ‘Invisible Zones’ for string quartet and orchestra. With Coll conducting, they will give the Dutch première (later, this evening), but first Coll and the quartet will explore the work in an open conversation. An exchange between composer and players about this Concerto Grosso, its origin and the challenges it offers.
Hearing a piece for the first time is exciting and you might not know what to expect and what to focus on. To explore the composer's own mind before the première is by far the best and most interesting way of preparing yourself.
