Intimacy – the silent challenge

Philipp Blom is present at the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam as a keynote speaker. He lives and works in Vienna, the city of the great classical composers Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. As speaker in Amsterdam, he will take a closer look at the intimacy of chamber music, as well as what really good listening means.

Philipp Blom:

“Chamber music is the opposite of what we experience during the climate crisis in our media society. It creates moments of silence, of concentration on a minimum of voices, on a microcosm. This precious concentration offers an existential ability to see time anew, to find solace, form in a formless ocean of experiences. But true listening remains a risk, because you must allow your own vulnerability. That makes listening and participating almost into something like a philosophical principle.”
