Octet (world première)
There is something festive about an octet: two string quartets coming together to make music — and then the repertoire for octets is so rich and exuberant. Rich and exuberant is therefore the perfect description for the programme of the closing concert of the third String Quartet Biennale: a world première of the new octet by Osvaldo Golijov, the Enescu octet and Haydn’s Sonnenaufgangsquartett as amuse-bouche.
The St. Lawrence String Quartet plays alongside Liza Ferschtman, who chose Tai Murray, Jennifer Stumm and Ivan Karizna to complete her quartet. It is precisely this combination of a string quartet that has been playing together for thirty years and a quartet of star soloists that Osvaldo Golijov explores in his new octet. In the Enescu octet, everyone is in fact a soloist. An immense and impressive work with virtuoso parts, moving along like a rollercoaster.
Rich and exuberant is therefore the perfect description for the programme of the closing concert of the third String Quartet Biennale
